A little about Flora Springs from their website:
Over 30 years have passed since Jerry and Flora Komes first stepped foot on to the historic Flora Springs estate in search of a place to “kick off their boots.”
Jerry and Flora Komes
It’s hard to imagine now, but the majestic stone cellar of Flora Springs was once an abandoned “ghost” winery. It was Flora who saw the magic hidden behind decades of neglect, over-grown ivy, and shifting rock walls. The property’s winemaking roots date back to the 19th century, but it’s been the work of Jerry and Flora’s children, John Komes and his wife Carrie, and Julie Garvey and her husband Pat Garvey, that has written the history.
Located at the base of the Mayacamas Mountains in the far Northwest corner of the Rutherford appellation, the Flora Springs estate is in the heart of the Napa Valley. Founded in 1978, Flora Springs has been a family affair for over three decades. As both artisan winemakers and growers, the family is committed to the traditions of fine winemaking and responsible stewardship of its 650 acres of vineyard land for future generations to savor and uphold. Today, ninety percent of Flora Springs’ red wines are sourced from its organically-farmed estate vineyards, and all of these wines are crafted in our solar-powered 19th-century stone winery and caves.
Young founders in 1978: Carrie and John Komes and Julie and Pat Garvey
Named after our mother and grandmother, Flora, and for the natural springs on the winery property that have flowed uninterrupted even through periods of drought, Flora Springs is both our life’s work and our home. Third-generation vintners Nat Komes and Sean Garvey, both of whom grew up at the winery, are now poised to take the helm guiding the winery into a new era of artisanal winemaking in the spirit of tradition, innovation, and community values epitomized by their grandparents, Flora and Jerry.
Get in here for what should be a tremendous show all for the nice price of FREE! The Sure Fire Soul Ensemble will begin in The Turquoise Room at 9:30 tonight. Check out Sure Fire Soul Ensemble here!

The Tobin James wine dinner was a success! This was a large group (check out the setup!) and a fun night with great food and conversation with Toby about the wines. (Of course the wine was great as well!)

Tonight, we have Ugly Boogie, Friday it’s Franklin Lounge, and then Saturday night, The Baja Bugs! All shows are free.
Tuesday, May 28, the giant Riviera parking lot was full of Ford Mustangs! All generations of pony cars were represented, with fastbacks, convertibles, Shelby Mustangs, and many more. We were grilling bratwursts outside, and the turnout was great. The Mustang Club of San Diego was the group that put together the dinner cruise – check them out here. The MCSD has events frequently, and you can find them on the calendar on their website. Check them out whether you have a “1964 1/2”, an ’86 with EFI, or a brand-spanking-new Mustang convertible – all Mustangs are welcome!
Riviera is happy to host nights like this, as our large parking lot can accommodate many vehicles, there is room to walk around and check out the cars, and what better to go along with a social car meetup than the social aspect of grilling your own steaks on our grill?!
Whew! This heat wave is making everyone thirsty and desperate for a dark, cool spot. Look no further than the confines of The Turquoise Room! This windowless part of Riviera not only offers up a wide variety of quality beverages, but it is air conditioned, and calling your name. Hungry? Treat yourself to some food prepared by the kitchen OR, if you do feel like grilling, then gather your friends around La Mesa’s only indoor grill, and grill your supper in air conditioned comfort. Can it get better than this?!?!
Party Planet Karaoke is gaining popularity in La Mesa, and it’s a lot of fun!
